Ukraine
Hey everyone!
My name is Karina Pazhyna and I am a GE Ambassador since March 2009 who has extremely high motivation for making a sizeable contribution to the development of the youth stream in the whole Europe.
As for me, I am always optimistic and quite active person. I prefer doing then saying and it is difficult for me to stay at the same place doing nothing. Being a Junior at State Flight Academy of Ukraine (in future – aeronautical information officer, flight dispatch and flight planner), I know for sure what discipline is.
“Nothing is impossible” – my life motto. I have proved it thousands of times during my studying years, and don’t’ want to stop proving it every next day of my life. I consider myself to be a perseverance, purposefulness and straightforwardness person, and I adore learning something new and following new directions. You say it isn’t possible to change the constant things? No! It is!!! Don’t stop something if you notice some difficulties! Prove to yourself that you really CAN DO IT! By getting together we can change the things, the most important is YOUR desire!
Do you have any questions or need a piece of advice? You are welcome anytime! I will help you to solve out your problems whatever they will be! Have some suggestions? Write me – dracon781988@rambler.ru
Let’s change our lives for the sake of the future generations!

WSCF-E Lingua Franca Language and Leadership training “Religious Freedom as a Human Right”
Venue: Ukraine – Lviv, 25 – 30 May 2009
Lingua Franca is a language and leadership training programme of WSCF Europe, aiming at breaking down linguistic and cultural barriers between East and West. Since 1991, Lingua Franca has organised language courses and training seminars for students in Central and Eastern Europe.
Topic: the freedom of churches, religions and believers in Central and Eastern Europe during communist time was violated significantly. Even today, in practice and legislation, religious freedom, an essential human right, is not respected inmany societies, throughout the world and in Europe.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community withothers and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance” – but isthis true in Europe today? What are the experiences of those in neighbouring countries? What does the Bible say about religious freedom? What is our responsibility in response to violations of this human right? In this training, WSCF Europe will gather students and young people to dialogue about religious freedom today, seekingto promote not only feelings but actions of solidarity crossing borders, challenging students to work and campaign for religious freedom for themselves and their neighbours, thus promoting a more peaceful and just Europe and world.
Programme: daily activities will include lectures, small group, plenary and panel discussions, and practical training workshops.
Experts will offer closer insight into the topic, but students will be expected to actively participate in discussions as well as in games and role plays, sharing their experiences related to the topic. In addition, one session a day will be dedicatedto language training. Apart from the intellectual content, there will be opportunities for social and spiritual developmentthrough cultural exchange, bible study, common prayer and worship. We aim to create a safe forum where everyone can freely express opinions and experiences.
Participants: the training session will bring together approximately 25 participants from across Europe, including students who are active in Christian student movements in their home countries and guest lecturers who are academics and activistsspecialising in the topic. A good knowledge of English is necessary, but some language training is part of theprogramme. For more information or to receive an application form, please contact the organisers at WSCFlinguafranca@gmail.com or visit wscf-europe.org. If you need a visa, please submit your application as soon as possible.
Organisers: the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) was founded in 1895 and is a global fellowship of Christian students in over 100 countries. Europe is one of the Federation’s six regions and has over twenty-five national Student Christian Movements (SCMs). As Christians, we believe that faith and social justice cannot be separated, and we must be ready to engage in theological, political, and social issues. We strive towards unity in diversity across the boundaries of denomination, culture, nation, and gender, seeking to provide a forum of Christian witness and ecumenical dialogue for students.

International Summer School “Studying memories of Central and Eastern Europe”
Program description: the growing importance of local, national and transnational memories has recently a particular impact on the current political and social dynamics of the societies of CEE countries. One can observe that the interpretation of memory issues in the region is often a subject of political manipulation and heated controversial public debates. On the academic level, various existing analytical concepts such as French Lieux de mémoires and German Erinnerungsorte applied to the Eastern Europe realm become widespread and at the same time questionable.
The goal of the Summer School is to reflect on the present approaches and problems, which are being scrutinized by the researchers of the national/local memories and histories. The main focus of the program will be on the memory issues of the CEE countries, however, researchers who work on memory issues in other geographical areas, are welcome to apply.
This Summer School offers the possibility to learn in depth about the specific methodological problems and challenges, which many researchers face when working on memory. The School also strives to enable young researchers to find out more about the new approaches and recent publications and discussions in the field. It also will give an opportunity to meet new people and establish international academic contacts.
The Summer School focuses on the interdisciplinary approach and invites researchers from the various fields, including sociology and history, political science and psychology, anthropology and cultural studies.
The participants are expected to make a presentation of their individual research and to contribute to the collective workshops.
The program consists of lectures, series of presentations, panel discussions, and field trips within Uman and its neighborhood.Among lecturers and tutors, we expect Natalia Yakovenko (Ukraine), Andriy Portnov (Ukraine), Georges Mink (France), Alain Blum (France).
Location: Uman, Cherkassy Region, Ukraine.
Organizers of Summer School have chosen Uman as a place of different cultures, complex histories and intermingling memories. For more information see at: uman.info, humania.com.ua, sofiyvka.org.ua
Duration: 1 week, from 4th to 11th of July, 2009 inclusive.
