Fix the system, not just the symptom

MIT’s Climate CoLab “seeks to harness the collective intelligence of contributors from all over the world to address global climate change”. We’ve come across one proposal in particular that we’d like to share: “Fix the system not just the symptom“.
Reshaping the whole economy is the kind of action needed to fix the whole system. Don’t rely too much on ‘rules about targets about emissions’ – these kinds of end-of-pipe interventions are hopelessly weak compared to the massive untapped power of the global economy that could be simply switched to working to reverse the problems it’s been causing. Economic growth is today built up from activities that undermine everything needed to get future growth… This is a mega-challenge but the vision for it is also simple; the economy should ensure resource flows follow a cyclical pattern rather than linear.
